Greeting Card Chain Letter
How far can we go?
I am always asking myself, “how far can I go?” No matter what I am doing, this is the question that always pops into my head. The language of the question might variate a little, but it’s always the same question at the core.
Throughout the last year, I have connected with dozens of people through letters, emails, tweets, MySpace, and Facebook. I have led several chain letters, campaigns, and projects, each making their own little mark on the world.
The question keeps repeating itself: How far can we go? I ask myself what I want to do with this project, where I want to take it. The story continues to be written with each little project, each short email, each quick note.
In the beginning I kept track of every letter I sent and received, until the numbers went into the double digits and I lost count.
Let’s see just how far we can go. Let’s see just how many people we can reach, how many letters we can send. Here begins the biggest Letters of Love chain letter yet.
During the next week, I will be sending out a few greeting cards much like the ones sent during the Greeting Card Challenge (December 2008) and the Valentine’s Greeting Card Challenge (February 2009). These cards are not only letters, but also an invitation to you to participate in the Greeting Card Chain Letter.
If you receive one, you have to send greeting cards to at least three other people. The cards you send can be to just say hi, congratulate them on finishing the semester or graduating, remind them of why you love them, or can be a quick note. You:
- can send one back to the person who sent your card to you;
- must include a copy of the instructions you receive (you can download them here);
- must put Letters of Love on the back of the card;
- must include “you are loved!” somewhere in your message;
- must email a photo of the card you received as well as your name and location to elizabeth[at]lettersoflove[dot]net (this is how I will keep track of how many we send!)
Each card will come with a printed set of these instructions.
So, how many cards are we going to send?
No project would be complete without a goal, and I think we should aim high. Let’s send 1,000 greeting cards, and we’ll do it in three months. That gives us June, July, and August — the whole summer — to complete our goal: send one thousand greeting cards in three months to people we care about.
How can I get involved?
Start your own branch of the chain letter! If you would like to get involved without being “tagged,” just send at least three people greeting cards using the above set of instructions. Be sure to include the printout of instructions with each card.
You can also tweet this on Twitter. Just tweet Send 1,000 cards in three months with @lettersoflove http://tinyurl.com/LOLGCCL09. You can use this tweet for your Facebook and MySpace status, too! Post comments, bulletins, and send your friends messages to help spread the word and to get more people involved.
